Lecture co-sponsored by American Friends of Chartres and the Standing Committee of Medieval Studies of Harvard University, under the patronage of the Consul General of France in Boston.

In this lecture, Professor Crossley will explain how classical principles of medieval rhetoric were used at Chartres and other Gothic cathedrals to define space for pilgrimage traffic and liturgical movement and to organize and compose the vast imagery of glass and stone that makes up the High Gothic cathedral.
