Preservonomics 101: The Economic Benefits of Historic Preservation Thursday, March 20

The Modern Theatre at Suffolk University| 6:00 p.m.

While most Bostonians recognize the essential role that historic character plays in the city's self definition, draw to tourists, and overall feel of the city, the tremendous positive economic benefit of our historic resources are under-recognized.

Join a panel of experts at the AllianceForum 2014 to discuss the many ways the creative use of historic places has and can be an even greater boon to Boston's economy.

We will look at specific examples, real numbers, successes and challenges and draw on national and international cases to inform a vigorous discussion.

Keynote speaker Donovan Rypkema is a recognized leader in the economics of preserving historic structures in the U.S.

and abroad (www.placeeconomics.com).

He will be joined by panelists:

Lawrence Curtis, President and Managing Partner of Winn Development, a major national developer with deep experience in historic redevelopment;

Rebecca A.

Lee, Partner at the law firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer who has extensive experience on legal preservation issues and is also former Chief of Staff and Special Counsel to the Director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority; and

Jerold Kayden, the Frank Backus Williams Professor of Urban Planning and Design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, who is principal constitutional counsel to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and has extensive national and international experience in urban planning and land development.

This event is free and open to the public.

Thank you to Suffolk University for generously hosting the event.

The Modern Theatre is located at 525 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111
