In collaboration with Longy School of Music’s Teaching Artist Program (TAP), Brookline Music School proudly presents the interactive voice and piano presentation, Finding Expression in Music.
Join pianist Christy Robinson and Soprano Christiana Jamroz, in a presentation on Leonard Bernstein’s song cycle I Hate Music!
Through motion and sound, the audience will explore expression in music, how we communicate emotion to each other, and how music communicates emotion to us.
Through group work that utilizes the practices from Dalcroze Eurythmics disciplines, the audience will experiment with physical and vocal expression, experience the music emotively, and discuss the quality of motion with and without Bernstein’s music.
After the presentation there will be a performance of the song cycle and discussion about the students’ experience, questions and comments about the music itself, and the song cycle’s protagonist, Barbara and what she communicates through music.
