“Meet the Machines” A talk on the machinery of the Charles Schwamb Frame Factory founded in 1864.
Presented by Tom Calderwood, former mechanical systems researcher at the Mill.
The talk is the fourth in a five part lecture series celebrating the 150th anniversary of the purchase of the mill by brothers Charles and Frederick Schwamb in 1864.
The talk will be preceded by a reception at 6 p.m. Donations welcome.
The Old Schwamb Mill is an 1864 oval and circular picture frame factory and now a living history industrial museum listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Open Tuesdays and Saturdays, 11a.m.- 3 p.m. for guided tours that include a demonstration of the fame-making process; viewing of the summer art show “The Schwamb Mills Artistry & Craftsmanship Today” in the second floor gallery; and purchase of the Mill’s hand-turned museum-quality frames.
Shopping is available at the Shaker Workshops store in the Mill’s 18th century barn: furniture, lamps, rugs, and unique gift items.
Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mill members receive a 10% Discount.
