One of only two venomous snake species in New England, timber rattlesnakes play an important role in deciduous forests by helping to control populations of small mammals and as a food source for other predators.
Previously widespread in 31 states, human fear has resulted in timber rattlesnakes being completely extirpated in many areas.
They now face a new threat: disease.
Hear from RWPZoo Director of Conservation Lou Perrotti how Zoo staff have joined New England biologists and conservationists in a collaborative regional effort to save the remaining timber rattlesnake populations.
Doors open at 6:15pm, and the talk begins at 7 pm.
This event is 16+.
The price is $25 per person and includes lecture, cheese, and one glass of wine for participants over 21.
Preregistration is required.
