Racial discrimination shamefully has been present throughout America’s history.
Half a century after the Civil Rights Movement, economic disparities and social injustices persist among dfferent races and classes in virtually every sector of our society.
This TALKABOUTDANCE focuses on racism in American concert dance training and performance. The panelists will draw from their personal and professional experiences and share with us ways we can more equitably provide safe, inclusive environments for the dance students and artists whose lives we help shape.
We know dance can transform lives.
What can we learn from one another that can make our work more effective?
How can our work contribute to creating broader social change?
Come share your own stories and join what promises to be a very lively and enlightening discussion!
TALKABOUTDANCE is a biannual DWC event that brings together Greater Boston’s dance artists, activists and other dance experts and enthusiasts who believe that expanding the role of dance in our society can help build stronger, more inclusive communities.
One of the area’s most socially vibrant settings for dance-related learning, discussion and exchange of ideas, TALKABOUTDANCE offers a unique opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with old friends and contribute to the ongoing dialogue that is gradually repositioning the role of dance in our community.
