Dan Kimmel, the Movie Maven, writes a column featured in several newspapers and is editor of The Jewish Advocate.
He provides a history of Jews and the movies, from the moguls such as Louis B. Mayer, Harry Cohn, Samuel Goldwyn, and the Warner Brothers who helped found Hollywood to contemporary filmmakers such as Stephen Spielberg and Woody Allen.
He covers the changing way Jews have been portrayed on screen and how changes in the Jewish community led to changes on screen as well.
Films touched on include “The Jazz Singer”, “Gentleman’s Agreement”, “Marjorie Morningstar”, “Annie Hall”, and many others.
