Parent Group to Host International Expert on Infant-Parent Communication:
Wakefield Parent Partnership, Canterbury Children's Center, and North Suburban Child and Family Resource Network are co-hosting Dr. Kevin Nugent, director of the Brazelton Institute at Boston Children's Hospital, to present his talk, 'The Language of Babies' on Wednesday, September 30, at 7:00 pm.
Attendees will become familiar with: the history of how research involving babies has developed and changed over the last 50 years; tools such as the Neonatal Behavioral Observation Scale, which can help professionals and caretakers understand babies' strengths and needs, facilitate communication, and promote bonding between babies and caretakers; and learn about strategies to help caretakers and parents cue into babies' temperaments, levels of alertness, and nonverbal cues, which in turn can help strengthen the bonds between babies and caretakers. Following his presentation, Dr. Nugent will be signing copies of his book Your Baby is Speaking to You: A Visual Guide to the Amazing Behaviors of Your Newborn and Growing Baby which he co-authored with photographer Abelardo Morell.
