An All-American, Chris broke scoring records, was recruited by top colleges, featured in Sports Illustrated, and became the focus of an acclaimed book, Fall River Dreams.
Herren realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and was traded to the Boston Celtics after his rookie season.
He then lost it all due to substance abuse.
Alcohol and drug-free since 2008, he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else.
He shares his harrowing story of abuse and recovery in his memoir, Basketball Junkie, as well as in the Emmy nominated ESPN film, Unguarded.
Now, he travels the country to share his story of a frightening descent into addition, a miraculous recovery, and new life mission of making a difference in young people’s lives.
His talk, Rebound: The Chris Herren Story, is being held on Thursday, January 31, at 7:00 p.m. in the Westford Academy Performing Arts Center 30 Patten Road, Westford.
The event – hosted by Westford Against Substance Abuse (WASA), Westford Academy, and the Westford Parent Connection – is free and open to the public.
