Emerson's winning proposal is an anthology of ten short stories that seamlessly blend firsthand experiences with well-researched backgrounds of Diné (Navajo) culture.
The stories will include themes of culture, tradition, growth, grief, home, community, queerness, and identity.
Originally from Shiprock, NM, on the Navajo Nation, Emerson currently resides in Providence, RI.
There will be a welcome reception and reading on Tuesday, October 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the Abbey Room at the BPL’s Central Library.
The event will usher in Danielle Emerson and celebrate our outgoing Writer-in-Residence, Rhonda DeChambeau, who recently announced that her debut novel written during her residency will be published by Holiday House in a two-book deal.
Both writers will share excerpts from their respective manuscripts and reflect on their unique writing journeys.
