Enjoy the morning at this historic New England farm as we explore two very different photo techniques popularized in the Victorian era! We’ll start with award-winning artist/photographer Paul Wainwright who will lead a presentation and demonstration on stereoscopic photography. We will learn how this Victorian era craze entertained many with surprising 3-D images of scenes from around the world, and how to create our own stereoscopic images with modern day equipment.
Next up is Bethany Groff, Historic New England regional site manager, who will present an illustrated lecture on “Victorian Spirit and Post-mortem Memorial Photography.” Popularized after the Civil War, spirit and post-mortem photography was exalted in Victorian society, as ever-hopeful, bereaved family members tried anxiously to contact lost loved ones. Light refreshments will be available.
