Have you ever thought about adopting a child through the foster care system, or from another country, or through a private adoption? Are you interested in the challenges that adoptive parents and children face and how you can help?

Come to a panel discussion on the adoption process as part of Arlington Reads Together.

The panel will consist of representatives from:

* Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), Tracy Scatterday, Associate Director of MARE and Mary Hergarty, Chairman of the Board of MARE and the mother of an adoptee are both Arlington residents. They will discuss adoption from the perspective of MARE, a social service agency in Massachusetts that promotes the adoption of children in foster care and acts as a clearinghouse for information and referrals on all types of adoption.
* Wide Horizons for Children, Vicki Peterson will give an introduction to international adoptions based on her work at Wide Horizons for Children, the largest non-profit adoption and welfare agency in New England.
* Boston Korean Adoptees, Inc. The fourth panelist is Eileen Thompson who was adopted from Korea and serves on the Board of Directors of Boston Korean Adoptees Inc. a non-profit organization focused on building a community of adult adoptees with a connection to Korea and to educating the community about the issues surrounding international adoptions.

A question and answer period will follow the four presentations. Arlington's Community Read title, the novel Digging to America, portrays the friendship of two families who adopt infant girls from Korea and reflects the experience of immigrants as they adjust to the American culture.

The program is free to the public and will take place In the community room at the Robbins Library in Arlington.
