About the Pacifica Quartet
An award-winning quartet practically from its inception, the Pacifica Quartet most recently received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, only the second quartet to do so in the award’s 30-year history. The prestigious Gramophone magazine named the group one of “five new quartets you should know about.” The group is known not only for its skilled interpretation of the traditional quartet repertoire, but also for its willingness to perform innovative twentieth- and twenty-first century works. In particular, the quartet won international acclaim for their performances of Elliott Carter’s complete string quartets.
The Pacifica Quartet is coming to the Longy School of Music as Visiting Artists in Chamber Music for the next four years. In addition to presenting concerts, the quartet will present master classes for Longy chamber music students. Drawing upon their own experience in creating the Music Integration Project, an innovative program that provides musical performances and teacher training to inner-city elementary schools, the group will also be participating in Longy’s new Experiential Education Program.
