This year, Wah Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy will return to the MFA to lead a lion dance parade, traditionally performed during Lunar New Year to bring great health, good luck and happiness.
Performances will take place at 11:00am, noon and 1:00pm throughout the Museum, ending in the Shapiro Family Courtyard.
Take-home art kits, which include materials and instructions for making a dragon puppet, will be available in the Lower Rotunda while supplies last.
Additionally, an MFA Job Fair will be held in the Shapiro Family Courtyard all day, inviting visitors to learn about career opportunities at the Museum.
Lunar New Year is supported by the Fan Family Foundation.
• Enjoy a variety of music and dance performances throughout the Museum—including Lion dances performed by the Wah Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy.
• Drop in on hands-on family art-making activities to create your own masterpieces to take home.
• Watch energetic presentations of Chinese and Vietnamese martial arts, and participate in interactive demonstrations of Saebae, a Korean New Year’s ceremony, and a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
The 2022 Lunar New Year celebration is one of five free Open Houses held annually at the MFA, along with MLK Day Open House , MFA 150 Memorial Day Open House , Highland Street Foundation’s Free Fun Friday (summer date TBD) and Indigenous Peoples' Day..
