Exploration tells the story of Annie Warren, a young photographer from the mid-West, who comes to New York City to make her way in life. When Annie loses her spark of inspiration – her stardust – she is taken on a fantastical journey, and meets famous explorers and historical figures who give her just what she needs to regain her integrity and purpose. In Exploration, audiences will see the field transformed from the bustling streets of New York City, to the underwater kingdom of Jacques Cousteau, to the explosive workshop of Leonardo DaVinci, and beyond! They will meet Joan of Arc, Black Elk, Ansel Adams and others, and perhaps be inspired to follow their own stardust.
The music in Exploration, performed live on the field, arrays from Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, to arrangements of Ennio Morricone’s “The Dinner” from Lady Caliph, to “Defying Gravity” from the musical Wicked by Stephen Schwartz, to David Arkenstone’s Across the Great Oceans, to Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and more!
Spirit of America Band is dedicated to the pursuit of the ideals upon which our country was founded. Upholding the values of teamwork, patriotism, and excellence, this ensemble of more than one hundred members, ages ten through sixty years old, has inspired the youth of America and audiences throughout the world. Every summer, as ambassadors of arts education, Spirit of America Field Band holds workshops and gives performances to strengthen student band members with their love of music. The band has been featured in exhibition with Drum Corps International, Bands of America, and the New England Scholastic Band Association. In 2006, Spirit of America won the Division I Championships at the World Association of Marching Show Bands in Jeju, Korea.
