Sing and dance while exploring the many lands touched by the African diaspora. In this workshop, participants will learn about the music and culture from different regions in Africa, including Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, and the Congo. Then, they will travel across the Atlantic Ocean to sing songs and learn folkloric dances from the Americas, including Haiti, Brazil, Cuba, and North America.
Leslie and Cornell will invite participants to explore the relationships between all of these regions, while encouraging them to recognize the ways in which these cultures’ musical and dance forms intertwine and influence one another.
