Can You Dig It? That “Steventies” Show Gets Ready to Groove

First he “Raised the Roof” with his Broadway 25 musical revues. Now Steve SanSoucie is getting to tear the roof off the place with his groovy new 70s-inspired That “Steventies” Show on Sunday, September 20th at The Center for Arts in Natick, MA. Backed by a five-piece band, including husband Rob Wendel as pianist/music director, SanSoucie will take the audience on a journey through some of the greatest hits of the decade that brought us Watergate, feathered hair, and platform shoes.

SanSoucie might have been just a small kid during much of the 70s, but he grew to become a huge fan of 70s musical icons like Donna Summer and Elton John. “Who doesn’t want to dance when you hear ‘Do the Hustle’?” he says. “To me, the 70s had an explosion of quality music. It was full of legendary musicians and musical creativity”.

The 90-minute show will feature a host of favorites from the likes of The Beatles, Donna Summer, The Carpenters, Billy Joel, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The Jackson Five, The Partridge Family, Elton John, Jim Croce, and James Taylor. SanSoucie plans to sing a few medleys, as well as offer his own two cents on the cryptic lyrics of “MacArthur Park.” He also slyly mentions a musical surprise that will really rock the audience.

SanSoucie normally performs with the sole accompaniment of Wendel on piano, but for That “Steventies” Show, they’re calling for more backup. Wendel will be joined by Daniel Bennett on saxophone, Randy Cloutier on drums, Kevin Coyne on lead guitar, and Lee Whalen on bass guitar.

Wendel says, 'I'm totally thrilled to arrange for and perform with a full ensemble, especially after just music directing Cabaret, complete with a raucous, jazzy pit orchestra. The performance will not exactly be 'cover' renditions, so they will allow for much on-the-spot improvisation and stylization.'

Break out the polyester pants suit and join SanSoucie for a far-out night that you won’t soon forget! Tickets are $20 per person, $18 for seniors and students. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show starts at 7:30 pm.
