The Makula Fund for Children is a non-profit organization founded in response to the needs of children in Uganda who have lost one or both parents to AIDS. These children face a daily struggle to meet their own basic needs of food, education, and medical care. The Makula Fund for Children supports the children directly by paying for school fees, school supplies, and uniforms. The Fund also runs a breakfast program for the children and provides medical care for the children most in need. 100% of all donated funds go directly to the children as volunteers cover all administrative costs in the United States. In the native language of Luganda, “Makula” means “gift”. The Makula Fund is dedicated to providing Uganda’s orphans with the gift of a positive future.
The East African Great Lakes Ensemble (EAGLE) is a cultural development organization founded in 2003, and based in Boston, Massachusetts. It is committed to the conservation, promotion, and sharing/teaching of African traditional culture (s) and heritage to the rest of the world through music, dance, drumming, and poetry. As a teacher of culture, EAGLE is a bridge builder presenting African traditional culture(s), not, as a dying antique museum, but as a dynamic and growing tradition that continues to stimulate an intrinsic selfless enthusiasm that provides a skylight through which one can view the inner person. EAGLE performs a variety of dances from Uganda, and the Africa great lakes region (East and Central Africa) including:
(1) Bakisimba A great royal dance from Buganda, accompanied by drums and traditional songs full of invaluable messages. Such songs work as linguistic tools of expression, in which culturally codified messages are shared and passed on to the insiders.
(2) Nankasa-Muwogola Creative drumming and dance
(3) Mbaga This is a festive dance that is carefully crafted to get to every emotion joyous emotion of the viewer and performer – indeed a dance crafted with advanced choreography
