The use of traditional nursery rhyme melodies and verse allows the child to become accustomed to the pitch of the tune, whilst also learning new words and lyrics. Studies have shown that melodic and rhythmic repetition can improve a child’s learning capability, such as logic, language and sensory-motor skills and memory.
These first few years are a child’s most important. It shapes who they become in later life, it shapes their character and through enjoying music, babies and children can improve their learning. Research shows children learn more in their first eight years than they do in the rest of their lives! That’s an incredible fact and we aim to make the most of it by teaching your child, not only the enjoyment to be had from music making but discreet skills that will enhance your child’s learning capabilities for life.
Studies have even shown that babies can ‘hear’ inside the womb and that they are already ‘learning’ and beginning to memorize rhythmic and melodic patterns in your voice and types of music that they are exposed to whilst you are pregnant. They’ve even found that babies can discriminate between different genres of music and even display a preference for music that they have been exposed to in the pregnancy. It is therefore important for this learning to continue after birth.
During a typical 30 or 45 minute class, we will sing age appropriate songs, counting songs, action songs and nursery rhymes. A wide range of instruments and props are also used including egg shakers ,bells, drums, puppets, scarves, percussion instruments, which help to engage your child's attention and bring our sessions to life.

Upon graduation and after many roles in musical theater, opera and band work in Australia and New Zealand Kellie recieved a scholarship to attend the Opera program at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge MA Program. Kellie has been teaching children's music and singing classes on the North Shore of Boston for 5 years and loves what she does. She has a fun upbeat style and genuinely loves working with children. She has presented her programs at pre-schools,libraries,festivals and museums including the Peabody Essex Museumand is thrilled to have a career that she loves. Kellie is looking forward to expanding her classes this Fall to include singing classes for 5-7 year olds and a musical fairy tale singing class for 4 year olds.
'I love working with children and teach kids of all ages, when I started teaching music classes to the under 5 group I fell in love with it. I enjoy watching the Moms and children sharing special moments in class and learning the songs together. Music and singing is so important for the under 5 year olds, it helps them in so many ways, including speech development, socialization, coordination, and establishing an early love for music in general. I can't think of a better sound than listening to a child sing, it is so pure!!'

This class is a special introduction to the wonderful world of music. The baby class is an opportunity for parents to improve their own singing skills. This is done by learning new songs, dancing to new tunes, making music as a group, and learning about and playing instruments. These abilities and songs are then passed on to your children over time. Attending theses classes puts in place an organized structure for you and your child about music and singing and to share it. Your child will respond to being surrounded by people singing together.Through songs, fingerplays, soothing lullabies group instrument exploration, the babies are exposed to a wide variety of songs and musical pieces.
