While most artists in the independent kids’ music scene have focused on a toddler and preschool audience, the Board of Education stands alone with its elementary school focus and its unique blend of science and language arts
education, character-focused storytelling, and a 70’s-inspired sound that is somewhere between The Shins and Schoolhouse Rock. According to the Seattle Times, “It's the rare record that you can bring to your pre-teen kids without steeling your nerves against six months of repeated plays and an onslaught of cartoon earworms. The BoE did it right.”
The band is fronted by children’s author Kevin Emerson, a former elementary school science teacher and author of 6 novels published by Scholastic and Arthur A. Levine Books. Emerson is joined by talented musicians Jeff Blancato, Eric Goetz and Andrea Wittgens, all of whom share an enthusiasm for cool science, tight harmonies and space sounds.
