17th Annual Collegiate Choral Festival at Regis College

Regis College will host the Seventeenth Annual Collegiate Choral Festival on February 6, 2010. As many as 200 students in eight choirs from various colleges as well as the Smith College Orchestra will participate in the event, which is open to the public. The day of music-making culminates in a concert at 7:30 p.m.
Regis music professor Sheila Prichard began the event in 1993, and the Regis Glee Club has hosted it annually ever since. The singing groups and the orchestra will perform individually and then in combinations. Repertoire for individual programs is at the discretion of the conductor, from classical to spirituals, folk tunes, madrigals, and novelty pieces. This year the theme of the event is “Collaboration Rather than Competition.”
“Beginning at noon with a warm-up session and vocal workshop, and continuing through an evening concert,” said Prichard, “this is an event that all music lovers appreciate. The grand concert finale, with all eight choruses – some 225 singers -on stage, will perform the Vivaldi Gloria (I. Gloria, II. Et in Terra Pax, XI. Quonium Tu Solus Sanctus, and XII. Cum Sancto Spiritu). The purpose of the festival is to inspire, affirm, and serve the needs of singers and conductors.”
Everyone who wants to support the festival and learn new repertoire is welcome, and observers are especially welcome to come and evaluate the day for possible future participation.
