The theremin, an early electronic musical instrument, has often been associated with an eerie sound, which has led to its use in movie soundtracks, as well as rock and avant-garde, 20th- and 21st-century concert music. Audience members will have the chance to participate in the Halloween Concert through playing the theremin and singing a Halloween tune or two. The Bakalar Recital Hall will be adorned in Halloween spectacle, as well as the players. Come in costume and join the party!
Brookline Music School will hold a Halloween Story Contest for ages 14 years and under. Winners of the Halloween Story Contest will have their story read and accompanied by theremin and piano at the Halloween Concert. Stories and poems can be any length. All entries are due by Monday, October 25. Entries can be sent to Megan Henderson at halfnotes@msn.com or to Brookline Music School.
