This concert of carols and motets from medieval to modern - plus a sing-along of Yuletide favorites - is the perfect way to celebrate the holidays with your loved ones. A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten is a popular work used to celebrate the holidays; those medieval carols set to enchanting music for treble voices and harp is often heard at this time of year.
We'll surround it with other carols from the British Isles, where the tradition of the Yule Log, Christmas Tree, Boar's Head, Boxing Day, and Wassail kept the holiday merry and festive. 'I'm thrilled to be revisiting the wonderful treasure of holiday music within the tradition of the British Isles' says Artistic Director Mary Beekman. 'We'll be performing carols almost 800 years old alongside ones written in the 19th and 20th centuries. Crowning them all is Britten's beloved A Ceremony of Carols. Britten set medieval texts to delightful effect and the harp creates a wonderful backdrop for his charming melodies.'
