The Borromeo String Quartet, an NEC ensemble-in-residence, performs and discusses Gunther Schuller's Quartets Nos. 1 & 2 as part of an extended engagement with Schuller's string quartet cycle that includes recording the works as well as performances and discussions at NEC and elsewhere. These works will also appear on the Quartet's February 23 Jordan Hall concert.
The Borromeo String Quartet is composed of NEC faculty members Mai Motobuchi, viola, Yeesun Kim, cello, Nicholas Kitchen and Kristopher Tong, violin.
The Quartet's 'Early Evenings' are a rare opportunity to get inside the minds of a composer and his or her performers in an intimate setting. The players talk about a single piece, sharing their insights, and then give a complete performance of the piece discussed.
