Old South Meeting House, Boston's famed 'Sanctuary of Freedom' where the Boston Tea Party began, hosts musicians and ensembles from New England Conservatory for the annual 'Music at the Meeting House' free concert series.

Two Boston institutions bring beautiful music to the city at a series of free, noontime concerts on four Fridays in February and March. For over a decade, Old South Meeting House and New England Conservatory have collaborated on the Music at the Meeting House series to celebrate the rich musical traditions of the Meeting House and the remarkable talent of the Conservatory's students.

This year's concerts take place at 12:15 pm at Old South Meeting House in Downtown Crossing, and feature:

- Artist Diploma pianist Lukas Vondracek on February 18;
- Artist Diploma cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan in a family-friendly, school vacation concert on February 25;
- The Harlem String Quartet on March 4; and the Klimt Piano Trio on March 11.

Concerts are free and open to the public.

The earliest music performed at Old South Meeting House was part of worship services. Built in 1729 as a Puritan meetinghouse, Old South Meeting House later housed a singing school for America's first composer William Billings. Nearly a century later, when the building was threatened by demolition, a concert with such notable performers as the Fisk Jubilee Singers, helped raise money for the preservation efforts. Once Old South Meeting House was saved as a museum, music was incorporated into a variety of programs and celebrations.

About The NEC
The oldest independent school of music in the United States, New England Conservatory was founded in 1867 by Eben Tourjee. Since its founding, New England Conservatory has shown a strong commitment to bringing the arts to the Boston community. The Community Performances and Partnerships program of New England Conservatory was created to link NEC undergraduate and graduate students with our community while also providing students with performance and teaching skills that are integral to a career in music in the 21st century, a central mission of the institution. Music at the Meeting House represents just one of these ongoing community partnerships.
