A group consisting of Japanese professional musicians from the Boston area are starting a series of concerts called “Benefit Concert Series for Disaster Victims - PLAY for JAPAN” to raise money for the relief effort in response to the recent earthquake and tsunami in Northeast Japan.

In addition to raising funds for the victims and for the rebuilding of this devastated area, the musicians would like to share with the public their deep connection to Japan and sympathy for those affected by this violent natural disaster.

The concert series will involve various musical ensembles for each concert. The second will be an orchestra concert featuring Boston Symphony Orchestra oboist Keiske Wakao as soloist and conductor Julian Pellicano, both faculty members at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. The program will include a new piece by Boston based Japanese composer aBe Lee, Barber’s “Canzonetta” for Oboe and Strings and Mozart’s Symphony no. 41 “Jupiter”.

Date: April 29th, Friday at 8pm

Place: Edward M. Pickman Hall at Longy School of Music
