Children’s performer Trien has become a local rock star among the young and young at heart, with her child-inspired songs. The “Nessa Groupies” sing and dance in the aisles at her packed shows with her lively band, the Jumping Monkeys, flock to her infant and toddler music education classes, and can’t get enough of her two award-winning children’s CDs.
Trien, who has a master’s in education from Harvard, made the switch from folk to children’s music right before her first child, Ellis was born.
Having played guitar and piano since she was six, Trien brings a lifetime of musicianship to her work. Her music is born out of a career as a folk musician, and is built around an acoustic-folk base. While her lyrics appeal to the kindergarten crowd, her music is rich with layers of vibrant instrumentation – from bluegrass to blues to calypso – which is appealing to adults in the audience.
Trien’s debut CD Hot Air Balloon, received the Parents’ Choice Silver Award, NAPPA Honors Award and iParenting Media Award. Carnival Day, her most recent CD, received a Parent’s Choice Award, iParenting Media Award, and bostonchildrensmusic.com’s Favorite Live Performance Award.
