Get up close and personal with an acclaimed symphony chorus at a FREE concert. The New World Chorale will be presenting some of the greatest choral works through the ages in a free concert, Sunday, October 23, 2011, at 3pm at The Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1545 Tremont Street, Boston (Roxbury).
The chorus will perform 13 short works composed from 1782 through 2002. There will be works that are sacred and secular. The chorus will be accompanied by full orchestra, the sumptuous organ at Mission Church and will perform some pieces a cappella. Come and hear Mozart, Brahms, Barber, and the wit and irreverence of Gilbert and Sullivan. There will be the brilliance of Mussorgsky's orchestration, African rhythms, and even classic jazz standards.
This free concert, made possible by a generous grant from the Free For All Concert Fund, offers listeners of all ages a peek at the greatest choral writing presented in a listener-friendly concert. Based upon the famous Bernstein Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, their program will take the listener on a journey through some of choral literature's most beloved works.
The New World Chorale (NWC) is one of the most in-demand choruses in the greater Boston area. In July 2010, the New World Chorale was featured with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra in the first-ever classical music concert performed at Fenway Park in Boston. NWC has performed major choral works with many of the area’s orchestras, including the Boston Landmarks Orchestra; Boston Ballet; Longwood, Lexington, Claflin Hills, Nashua (NH) and Boston Youth Symphonies; Plymouth and Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestras and Symphony Pro Musica.
The New World Chorale was founded in 1999 by Holly MacEwen Krafka and John Zielinski with the mission of performing the best American choral music and the goal of performing with many of the finest orchestras in New England. NWC’s membership comprises some of the Boston area’s most experienced choral singers and soloists who have performed locally, nationally, and internationally with the world’s major orchestras.
