Joining the orchestra are the 100-plus voices of the Plymouth Children's Chorus, Kathy McMinn director, performing movie music by composer John Williams, Double Trouble from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Dry Your Tears, Afrika from Amistad.
The winner of the South Shore Conservatory youth concerto competition, 18-year-old Gillian Pentheny of Marshfield, is featured in music from Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1.
The concert also includes a special musical commemoration. The U.S.S. Constitution, the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel berthed in Boston's Charlestown Navy Yard, earned her nickname 'Old Ironsides' during a famous 'War of 1812' encounter. The Phil observes the bicentennial of that defining event, performing excerpts from Richard Rodgers' Victory at Sea and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.
This concert is part of the national food drive, Orchestras Feeding America. Audience members are encouraged to bring and contribute non-perishable food items to benefit the Food Warehouse of Greater Plymouth.
This family-friendly event is being held in Plymouth's Memorial Hall on Sunday afternoon, March 4th. The concert begins at 3 PM.
The very popular hands-on instrument demonstrations precede the concert, 2 PM-2:40 PM. Tickets are now on sale. Memorial Hall is fully accessible.
