Hosted by Arlington-based musician and educator, Dan Fox, the First Annual A-town Jazz’n Art Festival will be an interdisciplinary event featuring the talent of local musicians and artists.

Featured bands for this all-ages, family-friendly festival include the Berklee City Music All-Stars, a group composed of the best and brightest young musicians in Boston.

The ensemble performs multiple genres of contemporary music, including jazz, pop, hip-hop, and rhythm and blues. Also performing will be the Claire Dickson Group. Claire is an amazing young vocalist who at the age of 16 has already won the Best Jazz Vocalist Award from Downbeat Magazine for her age group for two years in a row. Her recent CD has received many accolades.

Headlining the festival is ‘TarBone, a six-piece group co-led by trombonist Dan Fox and guitarist Mike Duke, both Arlington residents. The group plays original jazz, funk, and New Orleans grooves. Rounding out the group is an all-star cast of players including Steve Heck. keyboard; Bill Vint, sax; Jesse Williams, bass; and Barry Lit, drums

The first acts performing will be jazz students from Dan Fox’s Morningside Music Studio.

The day’s schedule will be as follows:
1 pm - Morningside Student Jazz Combos
3:30 - Berklee City Music All-Stars
4:30 - Claire Dickson Group
5:30 - ‘TarBone

Simultaneously, in the ACA atrium will be Sfortzando, an exhibition of music-inspired paintings, photos and collages.

The festival is being coordinated and hosted by Dan Fox, a local multi-instrumentalist and jazz educator. Five years ago Dan, along with his wife Jennifer who is a pianist, started their own music school in Arlington, Morningside Music Studio, teaching jazz combos for all ages as well as private lessons.
