On Saturday, April 14th at 7:30 pm, New England’s own Boston String Quartet, will form a string octet with the pioneers of “jazz for strings”, and the winners of the 2004 and 2006 Best Classical Crossover GRAMMY award, Turtle Island Quartet.

Jeanette Olsson, singer for popstars such as Britney Spears, String, and Celine Dion, and more recently Seasons 1 & 2 of the hit television show GLEE! will appear for a solo and duet vocal feature.

6-Time EMMY award winner and Hollywood film score writer for “The Nightmare before Christmas” Lanny Meyers will appear on piano and as composer of “Brubeckiana” a reimagination of jazz legend, Dave Brubeck’s “Rondo Alla Turke” which will then be subsequently recorded and released on Dave Brubeck’s next commercial CD release.

Boston String Quartet will also be joined on stage by the Xibus World Orchestra & Chorus, a symphony orchestra and choir comprised of highly accomplished students from over twelve states nationwide. Picture world and rock fusion, with music hailing from such countries as India, Ghana, Canada, and Kazakhstan. There may be a symphony orchestra on stage, but it’s not your parents’ classical music. And, it’s cultivating a whole new generation of classical music lovers.

Headliners GRAMMY winning Turtle Island Quartet and GLEE! vocalist Jeanette Olsson signed on to the event to support the mission of the empowering student musicians and music education nationwide. Turtle Island Quartet will be performing a string octet written by Berklee professor Andrew List, “Bruckiana”, original selection with orchestra, and the World Premiere of an original work by Xibus World Orchestra composition contest winner Alissa Cheung. Ms. Olsson will perform a World Premiere of an original work by School of Groove faculty member Evan LaFlamme, and duet with Grammy nominee countertenor Ryland Angel.

Tickets for the 7:30pm April 14th performance at Jordan Hall may be purchased by calling (617) 319-0439 or are available here.
