Around the World in an Afternoon with Sally Martin, violin & Ai-Ying Chiu, piano is a varied program, which will take you musically to many countries including Spain, Romania, and Estonia.

Enjoy an exciting trip without leaving your seat.

About the Musicians

SALLY MARTIN, a graduate of Indiana University, has performed in orchestras throughout Europe, including Germany, Austria, Italy, and France.

She has toured in northern Germany with the Niedersachsen Kammerensemble.

In her hometown of Buffalo, NY, she has played with many ensembles, including the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Buffalo New Music Ensemble, and Slee Sinfonietta, as well as with the Chautauqua Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic.

She performed extensively as a chamber musician with the Paganini Duo (violin/guitar), the Impromptu Duo (violin/cello), the Lexington Trio (string trio), and the Auburn String Quartet.

She has also performed for many years as a soloist and chamber musician in the Chromatic Club concert series.

Since moving to Boston in 2005, Sally has performed with various area ensembles including the Rhode Island Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Boston, the New Bedford Symphony, and the Claflin Hill Orchestra.

She also performs as first violinist in the Respiro String Quartet.

She teaches at All Newton Music School and at the New School of Music, and specializes in the Suzuki Method.

Pianist AI-YING CHIU has appeared as both soloist and chamber pianist at many important concert halls such as, the Town Hall (NYC), Le Petit Trianon (San Jose, CA), Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya (Seattle, WA), Seully Hall (Boston, MA), Walter Hall (Toronto, Canada), Basilica San Francesco (Assisi, Italy), Rachmaninoff Concert Hall (Tambov, Russia), Chih-Shan Hall of Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan), and many others in Germany and France.

In pursuit of her Master's degree and Graduate Performance Diploma, She has studied with Michael Lewin at the Boston Conservatory where she was the winner of the H.

Wilfred Churchill Piano Scholarship Competition in 2006 and the Piano Honors Competition in 2007 and 2009, and an Honorable Mention Award recipient in the 2008 Mozart Concerto Competition.

She was also an Honorable Mention Award recipient at the 2008 Chinese International Piano Competition in New York City.

Ai-Ying has worked and performed with Sinphonia Perusina, conducted by Enrico Marconi, and the Boston Conservatory Orchestra, conducted by Bruce Hangen.

She is currently a faculty member at the New school of Music, Ip Piano School, and a staff pianist at the Boston Conservatory.
