Resonant of the boldness and nostalgia of the jazz age, this Lexington Symphony dress rehearsal performance will feature a distinctive lineup of rousing jazz-based selections.
Informed by Music Director Jonathan McPhee's admiration for mentor Leonard Bernstein, the program will include Bernstein's symphonic suite from the 1954 film 'On the Waterfront,' a symphonic arrangement of Gershwin's iconic and beloved American opera 'Porgy and Bess' (which Bernstein championed), and Howard Brubeck's 'Dialogues for Jazz Combo and Orchestra' (which Bernstein premiered).
Performing Brubeck’s 'Dialogues for Jazz Combo and Orchestra' with the Symphony will be alto saxophonist and founder of the high school’s jazz program, Jeffrey Leonard, along with Lexington High School jazz program alumni.
Informal Q&A with Maestro McPhee offered at intermission.
Tickets for this special preview concert are $10 and are available at the door only.
