The artist will describe how the shakuhachi is made, played and the culture in which it is rooted.

This will be followed by pieces of the early monk wanderers, the later ensemble repertory and a composition by local composer John McDonald.

Elizabeth Reian Bennett is the first woman to play the shakuhachi professionally as a Grand Master; she has studied with Living National Treasure Aoki Reibo for over 30 years and teaches in the world music program at Tufts University.
