Now celebrating their 23rd year, the Minstrels invited the public to their Annual Rock The House Fundraiser.
The event will be held on Saturday, April 26st, 2014 at Sons of Italy, 520 Pleasant St, Waterown, MA.
The fundraiser runs from 7:00 p.m. to 11 p.m., and features live music, dancing, dinner, desserts, and live and silent auctions.
The story of the Boston Minstrels began in 1991, when leader and guitarist Tim McHale and his wife Jane began holiday caroling in nursing homes.
Soon the Minstrels grew in numbers and started interactive sing-alongs in shelters, prisons, and other settings where they witnessed the profound and positive impact of music.
A typical Minstrel’s ‘Songfest’ draws audiences in with familiar tunes, upbeat energy and an invitation to come up to the microphone.
In shelters and other settings where people are struggling with homelessness, substance abuse and other crucial life issues, music creates a safe haven.
The simple pleasures of joining in song with others, playing a percussion instrument, dancing, socializing, and even receiving applause for a turn at the microphone - all help build connections, feed the soul, and uplift the spirit.
The Songfest’s closing circle provides a space in which people frequently speak spontaneous words of hope and promise.
The ROCK THE HOUSE Fundraiser has the goal of raising funds to continue Boston Minstrels’ vital mission, and to expand its outreach through new musical initiatives.
