Now in its fourth year, this series of concerts is designed to appeal to a broad range of musical tastes. It will showcase several different styles of music including chamber music, jazz, and orchestral pieces.
Jazz: America's Classical Music
Jazz was conceived and developed in the United States, with its roots in the spirituals sung in the days of slavery. Jazz evolved through many stages over a 100 year period.
This concert will be a narrated, informative presentation of the history of this great art form. You will hear classic examples of music from ragtime to swing to bebop to mainstream to modern funk and rock.
Thayer’s private teaching staff – themselves accomplished professional musicians – will perform, while Thayer’s Arts Department Head, Jeff Browne (P ’04, ’05), narrates the journey.
