He has maintained a remarkably consistent musical vision since his jug band days, and in recent years he and Geoff Muldaur have often revisited and expanded their jug band repertoire as a duo, and Kweskin performs regularly with other legendary musicians including Happy Traum, Suzy Thompson, and Samoa Wilson, among others.
Kweskin and the Jug Band was the original Americana band, playing everything from classic blues to hillbilly country, ragtime, jazz, and rock ’n’ roll.
They perfectly captured the 1960s mix of exuberant anarchy and heartfelt sincerity—one of the many other jug bands they inspired evolved into the Grateful Dead—but no other group attained their unique blend of youthful energy and antiquarian expertise, tight musicianship, loose camaraderie, and infectious swing.
