Montbleau was born and raised in Peabody, MA, and though he had played guitar since childhood, didn’t begin performing and writing songs in earnest until his college years at Villanova.

In Boston, Montbleau began performing at cafes and clubs around the city and the northeast, gradually working up enough songs to begin recording.

He released two solo acoustic records before forming a band (The Ryan Montbleau Band) and fleshing out his bluesy folk tunes into rock and soul.

The band’s constant touring (notching 200 gigs a year) provided a growing fanbase and increased critical recognition resulting in Montbleau winning Best Male Vocalist in the 2007 Boston Music Awards.

He has now released eight total records, the most recent being the critically-adored For Higher, which he recorded in New Orleans with some of the city’s finest players including Ben Ellman (Galactic), Anders Osborne and George Porter Jr. (The Meters).
