The series continues with saxophonist and composer Uri Gurvich.
Performing with Gurvich will be fellow Berklee alumni Asen Doykin on piano, Peter Slavov on bass, and Ronen Itzik on drums.
The Checkout - Live at Berklee: Uri Gurvich airs live in New York on WBGO 88.3 FM, and will be webcast live at WBGO.org/thecheckout/berklee, where it will also be archived for later viewing.
Past Checkout – Live at Berklee performers have included Christian Scott, Melissa Aldana, Warren Wolf, and Ingrid Jensen.
Uri Gurvich was a member of the Tel Aviv Jazz Orchestra and won the Jazz Player of the Year competition in his native Israel before coming to Berklee.
Now based in New York, Gurvich won acclaim with his debut album The Storyteller (Tzadik).
His second album, BabEl, features his quartet and Moroccan musician Brahim Fribgane on oud and percussion.
The Los Angeles Times wrote that the music “transcends borders,” placing Israeli, Yemenite, East European and North African music into a progressive jazz context.
