Interactive, short, music workshops all over the music building will let kids can try different music disciplines.
No tickets are required, but we do ask you make reservations. You can do this by emailing Edith Auner at edith.auner@tufts.edu or by calling (617) 627-2253.
For grades K - 4
DALCROZE FOR KIDS (repeating sessions)
The Dalcroze Method teaches musical concepts through movement. A variety of movement analogues are used for musical concepts, to develop an integrated and natural feel for musical expression.
For middle school and high school students
Repeating, rotating sessions, so you can check out a bunch of them
THE JUMBO KNISH FACTORY
The Jumbo Knish Factory - The Tufts Klezmer Ensemble, will be performing and teaching short sessions in traditional Jewish dance music from the Klezmer and Israeli Folk traditions.
CUCKOLDS AND CAPERS
The Tufts Early Music Ensemble will perform a set of early French songs and dances from Renaissance consort with singers, violas da gamba, harpsichord, and recorders. The sessions will include performance, instrument demonstration, and fun interaction.
BUILT IN A HOUR - THE COMPOSITION IN AN HOUR PROJECT
Ever wonder how hard (or how easy) it is to write a really special piano piece? Ever want to participate in the process? Throughout the morning workshops, Professor of Music Composition John McDonald will write a piece in one hour and you can watch, and maybe, help him along the way.
THE GAMELAN OF JAVA
This hands on, interactive session will give you that chance and teach you some of the time honored music and traditions of the island of Java, Indonesia.
WEST AFRICAN DRUMMING
The African Music Ensemble will present Damba, festival music of the Dagomba people of northern Ghana. The presentation will teach drumming parts and singing to the audience.
