The Sharon Public Library (SPL) will spotlight the town's multicultural heritage at its first Musical World Cafe on Thursday, December 4, 2014, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. The public is invited.Take a trip around the world and around the town at the Sharon Public Library’s (SPL) first Musical World Café from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 4th.
The 3-hour community program, sponsored jointly by the SPL and the Friends of the SPL, will feature live performances by more than a dozen talented local artists, finger food samples generously donated by local restaurants, and an art show and sale presented by local artists Marilyn Z. Kahn, Dorothy Brenner Appel, Laura Rosenspan, Vera Cross, Prity Turkia, and Mridula Satyamurti.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork will be donated to the Friends of the SPL.
Among the performers to be showcased in the Musical World Café will be:
• Anna Magee and Gary Fox performing traditional Celtic music on Irish fiddle and Irish flute;
• Director Iris Jacobs and members of the Kol Miriam choir singing Hebrew and Israeli folk songs;
• Massapoag Chamber Players Patricia Chane, Lise Kasdan, Harvey Katz, and Brian Kruse presenting a string quartet by Mozart; and
• Jago World Music playing Indian music on traditional Indian musical instruments.
The program will kick off at 6:00 pm with the annual SPL Volunteer Appreciation Program, featuring a show by Fran Flynn Magician Extraordinaire and a cake generously donated by Shaw’s Supermarket.
All SPL volunteers, including students from the Rustic Pathways and CHARMS programs at Sharon High School, and adult and student volunteers at all SPL events and programs throughout the year will be honored for their contributions.
The Musical World Café is open to all members of the community.
No reservations are required.
In the event of snow, the Musical World Café will be held on December 11, 2014.
