Like their California folk-rock contemporaries The Byrds, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band updated the folk revival sound of the 60’s, bringing in pop and rock elements.
Their self-titled debut record was released on Liberty Records in 1967 and included the modest commercial hit “Buy for Me the Rain.”
