Michael Haydn composed his Requiem in C minor in 1771 for the death of his patron and used it later at the funeral of his older brother, Franz Josef. The Mass in Time of Distress by Franz Josef Haydn became know as the Lord Nelson Mass for a performance given for the famed British admiral following his victory over Napoleon at the Battle of the Nile.
NCS, now in its 31st season, is under the direction of David Carrier, a gifted organist, orchestral conductor, and choral director. Carrier has helped to guide NCS to its position as one of Boston's premiere metropolitan choral groups. The more than 80 members of the chorus come mostly from communities around Boston and the Metrowest area, including Framingham, Lexington, Natick, Needham, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley, West Roxbury and Weston.
