Family Folk Chorale, under the direction of Chris Eastburn, will celebrate the music of two universally renowned female songwriters Carole King and Joni Mitchell, performing popular favorites and lesser known gems, on Sunday, April 12, 3 p.m. at Arlington Town Hall.
From solos and parent-child duets to whole ensemble and audience participation songs, the program offers variety and fun for all ages. The whole chorus joins in for King's bluesy, powerful 'Hi-De-Ho' and the well-known 'You've Got a Friend' and Mitchell's philosophical, poetic takes on life and love shine as young and old sing the poignant verses of 'The Circle Game' and 'Both Sides Now.'
The men ham it up in 'Big Yellow Taxi,' then join the women for a rocking version of 'I Feel the Earth Move.' Speaking of rock, the teens of today take on Mitchell's classic ode to the rockers of yesteryear, 'Woodstock.'
The kids present their own sweet renditions of King's 'Alligators All Around' from the musical 'Really Rosie,' and her song 'Beautiful.' King's 'Wasn't Born to Follow' gets a traditional folk treatment by a small group, and 'Child of Mine' couldn't get more touching as a parent sings to his child.
