The band's core instrumentation is on the bizarre side, including marimba lumina, drums, tupan, electric and prepared upright bass, acoustic and electric violin, and (mostly female) vocals.
Bury Me Standing was cofounded by a Bulgarian marimbist who grew up behind the Iron Curtain listening to American metal (Vessela Stoyanova) and an American prog-rock drummer who became enamored of Balkan folk music (Nate Greenslit).
The band has long included an American bassist influenced by free jazz (Tony Leva), and its newest member is experimental vocalist Rebecca Kopycinski (also called Nuda Veritas).
This show will also feature a number of guest musicians, including Burcu GuleƧ, a Turkish vocalist who's developing her own microtonal system, and Parham Haghighi, an Iranian vocalist extraordinaire currently in his last semester at Berklee.
