Brookline Music School’s final performance in its 2015-16 Faculty Artist Series, 'Faculty Artist Showcase', presents a collection of styles to reflect the musical range of the faculty.

The Violin and Piano and 'Translations' Recitals include a selection of classical repertoire, while the Olson Pingrey Quartet play original compositions and playful arrangements of jazz standards.

The Marvento Duo, Brookline Music School faculty member Elizabeth Chladil, piano, and guest Weronika Balewski, flute, present 'Translations,'' playing their transcription of Claude Debussy’s Violin Sonata, Robert Schumann’s Three Romances, Bohuslav Martinu’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, and recent works by Nadine Dyskant-Miller and David Dzubay.

Translations will encounter musical translations in the flute and piano repertoire and observe text to melody, movement to sound, violin to flute, and birdsong to sonata.

The Violin and Piano Recital, with Brookline Music School faculty member Sasha Callahan, violin, and guest Yun Lee, piano, will explore the rich repertoire of violin and piano sonatas, featuring works by Beethoven, Ravel, and American composer Kenji Bunch.

Highlighting the variety of emotions and colors of sound that are possible with this partnership of instruments, the performance includes informal discussion of each piece, giving context to the performers favorite elements.

The Olson Pingrey Quartet, Brookline Music School faculty member Kathy Olson, baritone saxophone, and Randy Pingrey, trombone, Aaron Darrell, bass, and Austin McMahon, drums, play original compositions and playful arrangements of jazz standards and original compositions.

“The Olson Pingrey Quartet creates a fresh sounding collection of pieces that both recognizes the tradition (of which they are both masters) and yet stretches the contemporary boundaries of jazz.

It’s one you’ll want to hear again and again.” - Tom Plsek, Chair Brass Department, Berklee College of Music.
