Banfield, Berklee professor of Africana Studies/Music and Society, describes his group as Ellington meets Mingus, Ornette, Zappa, and Miles, and Gil Evans meets groove and pocket.
Jazz at the Fort takes place Sunday, August 7, 5:00 p.m., at Highland Park, 20 Fort Avenue, Roxbury.
The event is free.
Berklee and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department are the presenters of the annual concert.
It is among more than 200 free concerts in Berklee’s Summer in the City series.
Highland Park is wheelchair-accessible.
Parking is available at Columbus Avenue and Cedar Street in the Roxbury Community College lot.
The park is also a short walk from the MBTA Roxbury Crossing Station.
In the event of rain, the concert will move to Roxbury Community College's Media Arts Center, 1234 Columbus Avenue.

Along the park’s promenade will be a display of art for sale by local artists of Discover Roxbury's ArtROX!
series.
Since 1997, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department has offered a wide variety of cultural offerings in Boston's parks including performing, participatory, and visual arts.
