Joyce Alper & Andrus Madsen Perform Oboe Music
Oboist Joyce Alper and harpsichordist Andrus Madsen will perform a program entitled The Mighty Hoboy. The Hoboy, or oboe as it is known today, was a favorite woodwind instrument in the early 18th century. This program will feature solo oboe music of the High Baroque from Italy and England.
This summer, the Old State House will come to life with live performances of 18th century music. This three-concert series, presented by The Bostonian Society in partnership with Newton Baroque, will offer music that was popular in Boston and may have been played in the Old State House during the colonial period. Newton Baroque director Andrus Madsen will provide commentary throughout the concerts to place the music in historical context.
