Celtic fiddler Claire Pettit is a gifted instrumentalist, composer, singer, and dancer.
Accomplished on both the violin and viola, she has studied traditional fiddling with several of Cape Breton Island’s legendary masters.
Enjoy traditional slow airs and marches as well as jubilant jigs and reels that are guaranteed to keep your feet tapping.
After we warm up with Claire, we are joined by children from The Whyte School of Irish Step Dancing located in Natick.
The school draws students of various ages and abilities from over ten towns in the area.
Students learn not only the cultural aspects of traditional Irish step solo dances such as reels and jigs, but they also learn ceilis or group dances.
They will be performing some traditional set dances such as St.
Patrick's Day Set or Jockey to the Fair danced in the hard or treble jig shoes by our older students.
Some of the younger students will dance in their ghillies or soft shoes beginner reels and light jigs.
Shamrock cookies and shamrock cider will be available for sale.
