.
That all must stand against injustice of every kind was the overriding message.
The performers’ devotion to it as well as to the music was unmistakable.” Countertenor Tai Oney, praised by the Guardian as “ravishing” and “superb” will be featured in the role of Kisule.
Baritone Ron Williams, whom the Boston Globe lauds as “stunning...a gusty voiced, literate singer” will sing the role of Ugandan Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, excommunicated for his work as an ally to the LGBTQI community.
The concert will conclude with the premiere of Psalms of Luminous Rescue, a newly commissioned work by Patricia Van Ness.
Its radiant harmonies offer solace to the marginalized in flickering modes of darkness and hope.
Coro Allegro’s previous performances and recordings of works by Van Ness, winner of the 4th annual Daniel Pinkham Award and former Composer-in-Residence, have been praised by reviewers as “absolutely ravishing,” “profoundly evocative,” “immensely involving and not a little moving.” Sonja DuToit Tengblad, celebrated by the Boston Globe for her “crystalline tone and graceful musicality” will be featured as soprano soloist.
